Dear Mercy Place Fernhill residents and families
Today’s update from our home
Health and wellbeing
Despite this particularly chilly Melbourne weekend, I am pleased to let you know that all residents remain well. We are keeping warm and toasty here at Mercy Place Fernhill today.
I am still waiting on all the resident and staff results to come through from the second round of testing. We hope to receive these in the next 24 hours. Thank you so much for your continued patience and I will of course let you know as soon as they come to hand.
The importance of connection
When the clock ticked over to midnight on New Year’s Eve and we pictured the year ahead, no one in this world could have imagined the global pandemic that lay ahead. Celebration gatherings, visitors in our homes and hugs with loved ones have been replaced with Zoom calls and virtual hugs.
Exactly 100 years ago the Sisters of Mercy opened their first Victorian hospital after they too had faced a devastating pandemic, known as influenza or ‘Spanish flu’. They did not have the technology we have today. I am grateful that we have been able to keep families connected during these extraordinary times.
If you would like to take the opportunity to make a Zoom call, or book in for another one, please let us know. It really does lift everyone’s spirits being able to see loved ones.
What happens next?
I trust these daily updates provide some comfort and assurance that we are keeping a close eye on everyone’s health and wellbeing. As always, we are more than happy to talk through any questions or concerns you have. The best time to call is between 10am–12pm.
Enjoy your weekend and stay warm.
